Interesting Essay Samples - John Steinbecks Essays
Interesting Essay Samples - John Steinbeck's EssaysOne of the most influential writers on high school literature has been John Steinbeck. In a famous essay that he wrote for the Texas State Book Board, Steinbeck discussed the themes of 1984, one of his most famous novels. Here are a few examples of essays samples that he has written over the years.I've read a lot of John Steinbeck's essay samples and one thing that always struck me was how it is so often about the spirit of liberty. The author discusses the irony of history repeating itself, as if someone could have predicted the events of recent years. Of course he spends a lot of time discussing the corruption of the culture and society and yet he also talks about how the citizens have turned their backs on the spirit of liberty. In one of the samples he describes the day after Pearl Harbor as a terrible day of darkness and sorrow for the Japanese. One sample, where he discusses the problems between Harvard students and the dean and then leads to more conflict involves the dilemma of the story. I'm sure you can guess what the protagonist will do to solve this dilemma. The writer had created this pen name in response to a certain complaint. He didn't like his job and so decided to do something about it and wrote a series of essays for the school paper about what he thought about his position. In one of his essay samples, John Steinbeck discusses how the country has lost its way. He relates some historical incidents as a way of describing the situation and illustrates the common mistakes that our children have made by comparing them to Hitler and other dictators. I believe that the lesson is about learning from our mistakes and remembering the fact that we are more than just a collection of names. In another one of his essay samples, he relates the life of a Mexican couple. We see that in these two paragraphs they have been able to persevere through tremendous hardships. There are several short stories that were pu blished in his work and one of them is about a preacher who finds himself trapped in a town that is on the verge of rioting. In one of his essay samples, he compares the life of Mr. Denton to that of the protagonist in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. It is interesting that we are looking at two families in this work and one of them is actually the Denton family. You can read all of the essay samples in my book or in your e-book. You'll find all kinds of essays and excerpts to help you and your students. This book will be an invaluable resource for students and teachers alike.
